Cucumbers.

Most people have a purpose when they get up in the morning. A goal, if you will. Maybe they want to be good at their job. Maybe they want to be a good parent. Maybe they want to leave the world better than they found it. It could be any number of things...but there is some purpose, spoken or no.

I had a purpose today. I heard this funny as hell line on TV last night, and my goal for today was to work it into converstation. That's it. To deliver this line.

So, we had an issue with the network today that knocked out access to all the users for a good chunk of time. As part of the IS Department, I had a ringside seat to the flurry of activity, but as the Webmaster, I wasn't required to be a part of the solution. After the battle was over and enterprise-wide service was restored, there was that post-game analysis that inevitably happens...a mix of relieved giddiness that the problem is solved, pinning down the reasons that it happened to begin with, and a plan of action to prevent it from happening again. The team was gathered around in a casual semi-circle, everyone kind of hung over cubicle walls and draped on desks, guzzling soft drinks and chewing on Tootsie Rolls from Mary's desk. I sit kind of in the middle of the department, so I was in the middle of this discussion, even though I had nothing to contribute. As the conversation was wrapping up and everyone put their final thoughts in, one of our consultants turned to me and said, "So, what do you think, web goddess?"

I replied, with no hesitation whatsoever, "Some people think cucumbers taste better pickled."

I didn't lie.
